Process overview
Apollo's campus analyst programme is highly selective, focused on credit and private equity fundamentals. The process involves screening, technical interviews, and a case study round testing contrarian investment thinking.
- 1
Apollo specialises in complex, often contrarian credit situations. Understand the firm's strategy of investing across cycles and in dislocated assets — this is not vanilla buyout investing, and your preparation should reflect that.
- 2
Credit analysis is paramount. Be ready to analyse a company's debt capital structure, identify covenants and their implications, assess interest coverage and leverage ratios, and opine on default probability under a stress scenario.
- 3
LBO mechanics matter, but Apollo also tests whether you understand how leverage affects risk — not just returns. Know what can go wrong in a leveraged buyout and how to structure downside protections.
- 4
Prepare a pitch for a distressed or undervalued credit investment. Apollo rewards candidates who can identify risk/reward asymmetry, articulate downside protections (collateral, structural seniority), and size position risk.
- 5
Show that you understand Apollo's integrated platform across credit, private equity, and real assets. A candidate who understands the whole firm — and can discuss how the businesses interact — stands out meaningfully.
